State Information

Nevada, famous for Las Vegas’ incredible façade of casinos and glitter, is also home to “The Biggest Little City in the World” (Reno). Its name is quite ironic given the state’s sweltering southern summers: “Nevada” comes from the Spanish word meaning “snowcapped.”

Nevada finds its main sources of income in the arenas of tourism, hydro-electric power and mining. There was never much chance of water sports making the above list, as Nevada is the driest state in the U.S., enjoying less than seven inches of rainfall per year. A great deal of the state is uninhabited, although Clark County is home to over one million residents.
