State Information

The United State’s capital city covers a small area, but its population is actually greater than Wyoming’s. The first president to reside in D.C. was John Adams, who moved there from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1800. Philadelphia relinquished its status of the capital city on June 11 of the same year.

The city was designed by Frenchman Pierre L’Enfant. The area has been referred to by many names over the years, including Capital City, Federal Town and Federal City. Obviously, the major industry in Washington D.C. is that of government; however, the city also enjoys plenty of tourism and business thanks to the government’s location.
