State Information

Delaware, whose catch-phrase is “It’s Good Being First”, is the second-smallest state of the union, weighing in at 1,982 square miles. Its colors, colonial blue and bluff, are depicted on its flag, which also displays the date Delaware became the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.

Delaware has an official “state bug”: In April, 1974, the Legislature chose the Lady Bug as the creepy-crawly symbol of the state. Delaware’s name is derived from the name of Sir Thomas West, Third Lord de la Warr. Major industries include business, agriculture and tourism.
