State Information

South Dakota’s most famous feature is definitely Mount Rushmore, featuring Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The state is also home to the Dakota, Lakota and Nakota tribes, which make up the Sioux Nation.

Home to less people than the tiny state of Rhode Island, some of South Dakota’s most important economic ventures include large ranches that run cattle and sheep. Soybean and wheat faming is second to the ranches in terms of income. It became a state on November 2, 1889.
