State Information

Named in honor of King Charles I, textiles, furniture production and farming are North Carolina’s main industries. The state sits on the Eastern Sea Board between South Carolina and Virginia with the Appalachian Mountains to its west.

The state is home to the oldest state university in the nation, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The state’s inhabitants have the nickname “Tarheels” which is reported to come from when North Carolina produced a lot of tar and people with tar on their feet would leave visible footprints when they walked.
