State Information
The United States acquired New Mexico as a result of the Mexican war. Leading the nation in energy research, the state’s major industries are mining, natural gas, tourism and oil. It is the country’s fifth largest state, but is only the thirty-sixth most populous.
Its original name was “From the country of Mexico” and it was the forty-seventh territory to become a state.
