State Information
With a major industrial focus in oil, mining and farming, Utah also takes advantage of its mountainous landscape to promote winter sports, especially skiing. The state lies below Idaho and above Arizona and is home to 2.2 million people.
Its name comes from the Ute Indians; “Ute” means “people of the mountains.” Another interesting place name in the state is Laven, which is “navel” spelled backwards. The town reportedly gained its name because it is in the exact middle of Utah!
