State Information

Missouri’s name means “river of the big canoes” and it is bordered by a total eight states, including the Midwestern Iowa and the southern Tennessee. Thus, Missouri is sometimes considered to be southern, but is definitively in the middle of the United States.

Becoming part of the United States as a result of the Louisiana purchase, Missouri (specifically Saint Louis) has long been known as the Gateway to the West. Nowadays, the state’s economy is very diverse. Many jobs find their roots in the service industry, while others come from tourism and travel.
