State Information

A diverse Southern state, Louisiana’s society is strongly influenced by a number of different cultures, including Creole, Cajun and French Canadian. Like Canada, Louisiana recognizes both English and French as widely-used languages, although unlike the United States’ northern neighbor, these languages are not official.

Situated next to the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana produces a lot of seafood, especially crawfish. Cotton, cattle and sugarcane are also amongst the state’s agricultural products. It became a state on April 30, 1812, and is home to over four million people.
